Porto's Cruise Terminal
Porto, Portugal
14 Dec 2018
Passenger lifts from Orona were chosen to satisfy the vertical transportation needs at the Porto Cruise Terminal.
The terminal was built in 2011 as a gateway to the region by boat. The terminal is located in the Port of Leixoes, just 3 km away from the city of Porto. The pier can accommodate vessels up to 300m (900feet) in length and thanks to its dimensions it receives the largest and most glamorous cruise ships from the worldwide cruise fleet.
Besides the terminal the main building also comprises the Science and Technology Park of the Sea of the University of Porto, which includes the Maritime Research Centre in the New Cruise Terminal building.
The terminal has high peak passenger demands. To best meet the design requirements, 5 Orona 21 person/1600 kg passenger lifts, 1 Orona 13 person/1000 kg passengers with thru car access and 2 escalators were installed.
All the lifts were equipped with Orona 3G aesthetic finishes in stainless steel in order to achieve the durability requirements created by the high traffic demand.
